Jeff
has been the full-time minister of the church since 2006 and he
writes...
I
can still hear those words now...'you will probably have to give up
your season ticket!' They were the words spoken by my college 'church
placement co-ordinator' when I decided to be trained for the
ministry...at Spurgeon's College in London. It seemed a long way to
watch Liverpool play football! A little later I was invited, and I
accepted, to be the part-time student minister of Fernhill Heath
Baptist Church. To be honest I did not know that much about
Worcestershire, only that it was overseas, or at least south of the
River Mersey.
On my
first Sunday, a lady approached me at the
end of the service and said,
'Are you a season ticket holder for
Liverpool FC, because I go on a coach from Worcester to Anfield for all
the home games...do you want to book you in?'
As my Dad would later say
'Jeff...there is a God in heaven after all'...but to be honest I've
known that for many years.
So I
moved to Fernhill Heath in 2003.
Previously, when I had a proper job, I was an engineering manager for a
cable company and really enjoyed it, but it seemed over a period of
time and after many 'coincidences' and conversations, that I felt God
was calling me into the ministry. I am still passionate about
football...and golf...and fishing, but my main passion is to serve
Jesus. There is something truly thrilling about being a Christian. Not
only learning to know and love God, not
only finding purpose, strength
and hope in Jesus, but also the joy and challenges of sharing this
journey of faith with others here in the church and in the community.
Life
can get messy and complicated at times, but knowing we travel together
is good stuff.
I was
ordained as a Baptist minister in 2006 and became the first full-time
minister of Fernhill Heath Baptist Church.
